Fun and Easy Activities to Do with Children at Home in Christmas Time.

As holidays come, the time is always great to be spent with Kids-even do some crafts. After all, there are only so many things and so many ways to keep them active without mischief. All in all, doing crafts together is one of the best things one can do with their family because everybody can involve themselves in the activity, make wonderful keepsakes, and even put up gorgeous and colorful decorations in the house. In this section, we would like to offer some simple holiday art projects which can be performed with kids, and fun will be guaranteed for all. These are most suitable indoors on a chilly winter’s day, as they are simple and inexpensive to make, and easy to clean.

 1. Salt Dough Ornaments

These Salt Dough Ornaments are one of the holiday crafts; how to come up with ideas to decorate their Christmas tree with salt dough ornaments. They are so easy to create, and each one can be decorated in a different way, which is such an added delight of extra Ryasian.

Materials:

 2 cups of flour

 1 cup of salt

 1 cup water

 Cookie cutters for holiday shapes

 Acrylic paints

Procedure:

1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, measure the flour and salt. Add water gradually while mixing in order to get the dough. Rub for some time to make it soft.

2. Roll and Cut: Take about half of the salt dough, and using a rolling pin, roll them a little less than 1/4 of an inch thick. Use festive cookie cutters to make shapes like stars, trees, and bells.

3. Make Space for a String: Before baking them, make a hole at the top of the shapes for the string by using a straw.

4. Bake: Place on a lined baking tray, leaving space between ornaments to prevent breakage. Bake for 2-3 hours at 250 degrees F/120 degrees. C until hard.

5. Paint & Decorate: Once hardened, paint with seasonal colors and let dry. Optional: Spray with sealant for longer use.

2. Pinecone Christmas Trees

If you are lucky enough to have pinecones in your backyard, these mini Christmas trees are an awesome way to bring nature inside; also, it is a fun way to let kids make mini decorations for the house.

Materials Needed:

– Pinecones

– Green acrylic paint

– Small paintbrushes

– Mini pom-poms or beads

– White paint – to give snow effect (if desired)

– Glue gun – for parents only

– Small terra-cotta pots – optional

Instructions:

1. Paint the Pinecones: Allow the kids to paint each pinecone with green acrylic paint. Let them be creative; leaving the tips unpainted gives it a natural look. Allow them to dry.

2. Decorate: Glue mini pom-poms or beads onto the pinecone “branches” as ornaments. If you want to show snow, dot just a bit of white paint on the tip of each pine cone.

3. Optional – Create a Base: Using hot glue, attach the pinecones to small terra-cotta pots for added stability and to create a stand for the tree.

4. Display: Place your pinecone trees on a mantel or windowsill for a festive holiday display.

 3. Paper Plate Wreaths

Paper Plate Wreaths are a snap to make and bring in just the right holiday pops of color into any room. Kids love making their wreaths personalized by color and decoration. 

Materials Needed:

• Paper plates

• Green paint or green construction paper

• Scissors

• Glue

• Pom-poms, sequins, or stickers

• Ribbon

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Wreath Base: In a paper plate, cut out the center so that only the ring of the outer part remains.

2. Color the Wreath: Paint the plate green, or glue green construction paper around the ring to completely cover the ring.

3. Decorate: Add pom-poms, sequins, or stickers for ornaments. You may even glue small pieces of red ribbon for a festive look.

4. Add a Ribbon: Tie a ribbon around the top of the wreath for hanging, and the wreath is ready to display!

4. Holiday Handprint Keepsakes

Handprint crafts make wonderful keepsakes, charting in the growth of your children over years. They also make great sentimental gifts to grandmoms or other relatives.

Materials Needed:

• Air-dry clay or salt dough – see above

• Rolling pin

• Paint – Holiday colors

• Glitter – Optional

• Ribbon or Twine

Instructions:

1. Roll Out the Dough/Clay: Flatten the clay or dough to about 1/4 inch thick.

2. Make Handprints: Have your child press their hand lightly into the clay to form a clean print.

3. Cut Out & Make Hanging Hole: Using a small bowl or a cookie cutter, cut out around the handprint, leaving a margin. Put a hole at the top of the ornament for hanging.

4. Dry or Bake: Follow directions for drying clay. If you used salt dough, bake according to the recipe.

5. Paint & Decorate: After drying, paint with holiday colors and sprinkle glitter if needed. Let it dry, then string with ribbon or twine.

 5. Snow Globe Jars

Homemade snow globes fascinate both a child and an adult. Such is a perfect winter craft for adding sparkle to any holiday decoration.

Materials Needed:

Mason jar with lid

Small holiday figurine-tree, snowman, etc

Glitter

Water

Glue gun: to attach figurine on the lid. Parents can help with this.

Glycerin: adds thickness to the snow, so it floats around for a longer period of time. Optional.

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Lid: Take the glue gun and glue the figurine on the inside of the jar lid. Let it dry completely.

2. Fill the Jar: Fill the jar with water, leaving some space in between the water and the top. Add a few drops of glycerin so the glitter falls slowly.

3. Glitter Addition: Sprinkle a generous amount of glitter in the water for that snowy effect.

4. Assembly: Screw the lid onto the jar tightly. If desired, seal with waterproof glue for added security.

5. Shake & Enjoy: Flip the jar upside down and shake to watch the magical swirl of snow!

 6. Button Christmas Tree Cards

These homemade holiday cards are simple, adorable, and one of the best ways for kids to get involved in spreading holiday cheer.

Materials Needed:

Blank cards or cardstock paper

Green buttons in different sizes

Glue

Star stickers or small foam stars

Markers

Instructions:

1. Arrange the Buttons: Have your child arrange green buttons in a triangle shape on the front of each card to resemble a Christmas tree.

2. Glue & Decorate: Glue each button down, add a star sticker at the top, and draw a small tree trunk at the bottom.

3. Write a Message: Let your child write a holiday message inside, and it is ready to go for someone special!
